Standish Gatehouse, near Stroud

A new regional office for landscape architect Planit-IE, their new home needed to be in keeping with the surrounding rural landscape, and sympathetic to the historic gatehouse which is attached via a glazed link.

The building is held up by a primary frame of paired douglas fir members, which act as portal frames spanning over the width of the building, creating an entirely open internal space which runs the full length of the building, with bifold doors and a partial mezzanine floor cleverly inserted to maximise the use of space.

Giraffe Engineering worked with the client, architect and contractor to develop the timber frame design all the way from early scheme design through to construction, taking full ownership of detailed timber member and connection design, providing a full suite of drawings and specifications to enable the erection of the timber frame superstructure.
